Programs and Services
Meals
The East Palo Alto Senior Center provides daily nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and weekly brown bag meals to seniors residing in East Palo Alto, especially seniors with low incomes. The City of East Palo Alto provides the lunch program. EPASC, Inc. provides the breakfast program, with a continental breakfast each day. A hot “country” breakfast is offered each Thursday. The Second Harvest Food Bank provides a Brown Bag program on Thursday which gives seniors fresh produce and food pantry items.
Health
Periodic Health Screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease are offered quarterly. Exercise and physical activities includes a weekly Tai Chi class, strengthening programs, and health related brochures and pamphlets (e.g. breast cancer diagnosis, prostate cancer detection) from local agencies are available at no cost to seniors, and are maintained in the Center’s reception area.
Transportation
Seniors needing transportation from home to the Senior Center are provided free rides daily using a van and driver provided by the City of East Palo. Transportation is also provided for field trips, and special outings or events.
Classes
Weekly classes in arts and crafts, Bible study. Periodically, computer classes are offered in the “computer room” which has eight (8) workstations, access to a network printer,
